It is caused by abnormal fats (lipids) in the powerhouses of cells (mitochondria) and those who suffer with it often develop heart failure, heart rhythm abnormalities, bacterial infections, poor growth or feeding, weak muscles, developmental delay, severe exercise intolerance, lethargy and fatigue.
